Payment Service Providers

In order to take online payments you need to have an online payment provider in addition to your website and shopping cart software.

There are a number of different payment providers. With our web cart system we generally support services from WorldPay and Secure Trading. These providers offer different services depending on whether you already have Card Processing with a UK bank.

Payment Gateway with UK Bank Merchant ID

If you already have a Merchant Account with a UK Bank your can get an Internet Merchant ID and signup with either WorldPay or Secure Trading acting as the Payment Gateway. With WorldPay or Secure Trading acting as a payment gateway they will process the online payment and pass the payment on to your UK Merchant Bank.

With this combination of services you will have fees payable to both your UK Merchant Bank and your chosen Payment Gateway Provider.

Payment Gateway and Merchant ID

If you don't already have card payment facilities or a UK Merchant ID then both WorldPay and Secure Trading offer a service that combines Payment Gateway and Merchant ID facilities in to a single service.

With this service you pay all the processing fees to the single provider.

Other Payment Services

In addition to the above PSP's there are payment service providers that do not require a IMA. These providers do not pay directly into your bank account. You will need to manually withdraw funds from these services into your bank account, additional fees may apply. These services may not have the same fraud detection systems as the above PSP's.
