Product Catalogue Template Content Management System

E-Commerce website that use the Enterprise Edition of the Security-Payment.com Web Cart service use a Content Management System (CMS) to generate the product catalogue pages on their website. This CMS uses templates for the category and the product pages. These templates use the data in the product tree to create the pages and are then wrapped in a master header and footer HTML files to create the individual pages.

Each template is capable of having fixed elements generated by the CMS. These include:

  • Category/Product Name
  • Current Category directory structure
  • Sub Category Listing
  • Current Category Product Listing
  • Current Product Data

The CMS uses one master category and one master product template to generate the website pages. It is however possible to have a individual template made to be used for a specific named category or product. These template files CANNOT be edited by you they can only be edited by our staff. These template files are however wrapped in HTML header and footer files that you can edit.

Controlling The Look - Product Catalogue

The look of the category and product pages is controlled using a master Product Catalogue Header and Footer HTML files, Category Header and Footer HTML Files and Style Sheets.

Product Catalogue Header and Footer HTML Files

These master Header and Footer files are inserted before and after the template generated content. This allows you to make the pages have the same look and feel as the main site. Any images used in these header and footer file must reside on your website and be pathed correctly from the locate of the product catalogue files. We recommend that you all images and links are pathed from the ROOT of your website.

The default name for these files are:

  • prod_header.html
  • prod_footer.html

Category Header and Footer HTML Files

The use of these header and footer files depends on how your templates are configured. These header and footer files can be used to insert HTML code in to fixed points in the category and its associated products pages or just the category alone. This setting is global and cannot be mixed.

Style Sheets

This is the last element in controlling the look of the product catalogue pages. Certain elements of the template generated content are tagged with CSS tags. This allow you to set things such as the typeface, size, colour, padding margins etc.. using Style Sheets. In order to use the shop.css style sheet you must include a link to it located in the prod_cat folder of your website in the Product Catalogue Header HTML file.

The default style sheet for the product catalogue and e-com pages is:

  • shop.css

Controlling The Look - Basket and Checkout pages (E-Com pages)

Unlike the product catalogue pages these pages reside on the Security-Payment.com Secure Server. The various page of the basket and checkout process are fixed and cannot be changed. The look of these pages is controlled via HTML Header and Footer files and a Style Sheet. Any images within theses header and footer files must be uploaded into the file manager within the control panel and must be pathed correctly in order to work. Any links from these files back to you website must be full URL pathed. In the E-Com Header you also need to include a link back to the shop.css file in your file manager.

The default name for these files are:

  • ecom_header.html
  • ecom_footer.html

All these HTML files and Style Sheets are located within the file manager of the Retailer Control Panel. This allows you to edit and replace them as required.

The below are diagrams of the 2 main template structures currently used. If you wish to add a category header or footer to a given category then please follow the instructions earlier in this document. If you wish to edit the Product Catalogue or E-Com Header & Footer files or the style sheet the this can be done by accessing the files in your file manager. You should be careful changing these files are they will effect all the pages within the product catalogue. If 3 Legs Ltd are required to correct any changes you make then this will be chargeable.

The yellow and green sections in the diagrams below are specified by the templates files and cannot be edited by you. The visual look can be controlled via the shop.css stylesheet and the data and images added to the Security-Payment.com system.

Template Structure 1

In this structure both the category and the product pages both use the category header and footer.
This means that any HTML specified in the a header or footer file would also appear in the product
pages of any product in that category.

Template Structure 2

In this structure only the category page uses the category header and footer.
This means that any HTML specified in the a header or footer file would only appear in that
given category and not any product contained within the given category.

If you require changes to the way that the sub-categories or the product information is displayed then these will need to be made via the template. These files are currently not accessible by clients and any changes need to be made by 3 Legs Ltd. This is due to the special language used for the templates and to ensure that any changes do not break the export process.
